First they came for my neighbors and I did nothing.

There’s been discussions of revitalizing “The List.” If the federal government or the state of Texas passes legislation forcing Musilm Americans to register with the government (obstensibly to allow government to more effectively monitor their internet use, track their movements, identify their relationships, and, if necessary, place then into detention camps) I will follow the lead of former Secretary of State Madeline Albright and register as a Muslim.

  1. History has a way of repeating itself. After the attacks on 9/11, George W Bush and the justice department put together the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System. This system entailed foreign citizens and nationals in the United States to register into immigration. This process included taking photos, fingerprints and thorough interviews. If we go back to 1933 at the start of Adolf Hitler's regime, he blamed the Jews for Germany losing World War one. According to the Holocaust Encyclopedia, the Nazi built a series of incarceration sites to imprison "enemies of the state". The concentration camps prisoners included Socialist, Social Democrats as well as Gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals and people accused of deviant behavior. The treatment in the concentration camps was horrible intense labor, malnourished, punishments and eventually death. Today, Texas has immigrant youth camps as a result, of immigrants coming to the United States and not making the full trip leaving the children behind. These camps are overcrowded and unsanitary. As we can see this pattern throughout history, the government's solution to dealing with these problems seems to oppress and hinder people's liberties for the safety of others.
